Screens
I am looking at a computer screen. Most of us spend a lot of our time nowadays looking at some sort of screen. It's almost inevitable. To be needing to do something, and it can only be done through a device with a screen. Paralyzed in our tracks, we look down to do something, to get something done, complete a task. We almost can't even imagine a world without screens. It has become embedded into our system, our everyday functions. And when we are without something to look at, we feel disorientated, lonely, like something is missing. Like being alone in the stillness of our mind is not enough. Or sometimes, it feels like being without a screen is wasting precious time of getting something done. But when it is also turned off, just black mirrors, what do we do? We look around and we don’t know what to do. We sit down to eat and don’t know what to do. We sit on the couch and don’t know what to do. We are uncomfortable with having nothing to do. Because everything that can be done, can only be done by looking at a screen. It liberates us from so much, yet we are restricted without it.
